Madison County Georgia Property Owners May Have To Pay Two Property Tax Bills in 2007!
The Madison County government in Georgia has fallen more than a year behind schedule in its taxing process because of delays in approving the tax digest. To date, the bills for 2006 have not been issued.
"Unfortunately, for the taxpayers we will probably receive two tax bills in 2007," wrote county assessor board chairman Samantha Garland in a letter to citizens published in The Main Street News.
Residential property owners who pay tax escrow with their monthly mortgage payment shouldn't feel the pinch to severely, however there may be shortfalls due to assessments of property values being higher. However, property owners who don't pay a monthly escrow may face financial hardships this year.
The Madison County Tax Assessor's office has been plagued with issues in the past few years leading to shortfalls in receiving tax revenues as scheduled which has caused the Madison County Board of Education to have to resort to borrowing funds to operate the schools systems.

I wish they would get tier stuff straightened out at the county tax office. It is almost an embarrassment. My clients are constantly having their escrow accounts affected and their payments are not consistent. Two tax bills in one year will not help matters any. Several of my clients have said that their lender has mailed them a check thinking they have an overage in their escrow account- what they fail to realize is that the tax bill has not been issued and sent to them to be paid and that in actuality- there is not an overage. When clients do not call and check on this with their lender or broker- and deposit the money- they will have a SEVERE shortage later this year. Please call me with any questions is you are from this area.
